The Berkshire Youth activities programme has been developed to encourage young people in Berkshire to become active citizens and get involved in events and activities offering life long opportunities.  Activities give young people the chance to improve their health, become active and make a positive contribution through leadership in their community.

Working with over 140 youth groups throughout the year, this programme is accessible directly through community events for young people and also in partnership with local youth clubs and projects.  We offer all our leaders the opportunity to train and qualify for community leadership with National Governing Bodies (NGB)

The events and activities are all about having a go.  Young people are encouraged to compete locally in anything from boxing to ten pin bowling and, if talent emerges, we can then provide a pathway into regional and national competitions. Our current activities programme can be found here

Inspiring healthier lives

Fit 4 YOUth is a genuinely unique activities programme that is helping to keep children and their families fit and healthy in Berkshire.  Approximately a third of children aged 10 & 11 years across Berkshire are officially classed as overweight or obese and this project, delivered by Berkshire Youth, is working to bring those numbers down.

Fit 4 YOUth is working to inspire children, aged 7-16 years, and their families to lead healthier lives by improving their diet and their personal hygiene to better prepare themselves for education.

A 12 week programme takes children through sessions designed to provide key health messages around nutrition, physical activity and hygiene. Physical activity isalso a key part of the sessions to help the young people become more active in fun games and non-curricular sports.

Fusion is a new and exciting 10 week programme for young people in year 6 and 7 across Bracknell! We understand that the transition from childhood to adolescence is an exciting, challenging and sometimes scary process for a young person and that is why the Fusion programme has been designed to support young people during this transition in school, after school and within their own local community. It aims to provide new opportunities for young people to develop key life skills and tools and encourages them to engage with their community through Social Action projects to leave their Fusion Legacy!

Berkshire Youth have recently debuted their new and exciting programme around mental health awareness, titled ‘Bounce Back’.

Bounce Back is a mental health awareness programme which aims to give young people a stronger understanding about mental health in general, as well as having knowledge around specific aspects of mental health that are particularly common for their age – such as self-harm, alongside coping mechanisms and managing emotions, in order to develop personal skills. This should equip the young people with the skills needed to act early if a mental health issue arises.

The Mental Health Organisation highly rates the use of knowledge as a prevention tool and states that ‘It is likely that better information for young people about self-harm would increase their understanding and might help reduce or prevent self-harm’, and in terms of improving the young person’s personal skills, as well as this, The Young Foundation, state that ‘there is clear and growing evidence that young people’s personal and social development are related to positive life outcomes’.

If you would like more information about this programme, please contact Lisa Forge on 01344 483 596, or email lisa-marie.forge@berkshireyouth.co.uk
